What’s in a name?

It can be difficult to come up with the right name for a restaurant.  This wasn’t the case with Burma Lane. The sell out success of our ‘Burmese Lane’ event at the 2013 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, convinced us taking the scenic route from Red Spice Road to Burma Lane was the next place to travel as we journeyed toward a modern Australian menu.

There was discussion on the use of the name Burma over Myanmar, the countries new name enforced by the military Junta in 1989.  The change was not recognised by the United Nations, France, Japan, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.  Although Australia recognised the change, for us it remains Burma, and you will find references to our support of the Burmese people and their struggle throughout the restaurant.
