Welcome Ben McRae – New Executive Chef



Royalty. Prime ministers. Rock stars. International sporting icons. Apples and Pears Entertainment Group’s new Executive Chef, Ben McRae, has cooked for all of them. And now he brings his fresh and vibrant take on pan-Asian food to the residents of Melbourne at our flagship restaurants, Red Spice Road and Burma Lane.

Before joining the Apples and Pears family, Ben’s been wowing the mouths of the rich and famous, working as a private chef in New York and London, and on superyachts. He’s also been the Executive Chef at Travel and Leisure magazine’s Hotel of the Year 2016/2017, Nihiwatu Resort (Sumba Island, Indonesia), as well as Bisma Eight and Sweat Shop Brewery.  His food has been eaten by Australian governors and prime ministers, Prince Charles, David and Victoria Beckham, Will-i-am, Powderfinger members and Lily Allen, among others.


Chef Ben specialises in the matching of food and beer and incorporating beer into dishes, having won awards for his beer and food combinations. Ben’s also the brand ambassador for Beervana Asia, conducting craft beer and food pairing events across south east Asia.

After a career spanning the globe, Ben has returned to his native Australia ready to give Melbourne diners the best and most tongue-tantalising pan-Asian food in the city.
